Folsom Mayor Marshell Brumfield has interviewed five people for the police chief job in the north St. Tammany village, and he is expecting to interview at least one more.

"I've started the interview process," he said

However, he's not setting a deadline for hiring a new person to replace outgoing, 12-year Chief Beau Killingsworth, who was not reappointed to the job during a vote by the Folsom Board of Aldermen in January. Brumfield had recommended Killingsworth be reappointed, but the board decided not to in a 3-0 vote.

Once the mayor has selected a candidate, he will recommend that person to the Board of Aldermen, who will vote to accept, or not accept, the recommendation.

The mayor said he is handling the selection process very seriously.

The village's safety is "a major concern for me," Brumfield said.

Also going on at this time is a recall effort of the village's three aldermen.

"My primary concern is trying to make sure that Folsom is as safe as possible during the transition," Brumfield said, adding it's better to not comment on the specifics of the recall action. "It's something that the people of Folsom are going to have to decide on."

Six applications for the police chief job have been turned in to Town Hall. They are:

  • George Wayne Wactor, Folsom, who retired as a sergeant with Louisiana State Police in 2001 after nearly 23 years with the state troopers.

  • Allen Scott Goings, Folsom, currently a police officer at Tulane University. He was also a police officer for the Madisonville Police Department and was a park ranger at Fairview Riverside State Park near Madisonville. Between 1993 and 1997, Goings was a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputy. Between 1990 and 1993, he was police officer in Mandeville.

  • James L. Anglin, Folsom, retired as a sergeant at the Covington Police Department after 25 years.

  • Daniel George Foil, Folsom, an attorney who has an office in Covington and was the chief criminal deputy at the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office from 2001-2006.

  • Michael Lee Revere, Bush, who is a community patrol lieutenant with the Covington Police Department. He's been with CPD since 1988.

  • Hezzie David Bulloch, Folsom, who retired as a captain from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office detective division after 25 years of service. He has also worked for the public defender's office in Covington and is currently back at STPSO as an information officer.
