A Slidell man died after running his motorcycle into his garage door on Friday.

The accident occurred about 2:20 p.m. as Jamal Strickling, 30, was riding his motorcycle home on Alisa Drive in the Bel Air subdivision. Authorities said his wife was backing her motorcycle out of the driveway at the same time, and Strickling veered suddenly to avoid her.

Strickling was unable to reduce speed and hurtled into the half-open garage door, then through an interior door, smashing into the main part of the house.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office was still investigating the cause of the accident Saturday. Spokesman George Bonnett said initial indications are that alcohol was not involved.

Though badly injured, Strickling was still breathing when emergency personnel arrived. He stopped breathing shortly thereafter and was rushed to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 3:15 p.m.
