Thursday afternoon's lightning storms had Covington's Fire Protection District No. 6 running ragged as it responded to home fires in the 18000 block of La Tung Road and the 400 block of Warrior Trace.
As severe storms swept through the northern part of the city lightning struck the first home, a barn apartment at 18408 La Tung Road, Chief Harold Dutsch said.

While reinforcements were heading to the La Tung Road fire, another call diverted those forces.
Lightning struck again that afternoon at a home located at 450 Warrior Trace. This blaze was a major ordeal.
When the lightning originally struck the home, the homeowner saw the smoke coming from the attic, Dutsch said. The homeowner then doused the fire himself thinking he had taken care of it.
A few minutes later the homeowner's neighbor called him and told him there was smoke coming from the attic of his home. The homeowner then called the fire district.
When the firefighters arrived the home was already a total loss, Dutsch said, because they did not receive the call fast enough.
Despite the late call, the fire district responded with three fire engines and five tankers, he said. Fire Protection District No. 9 from Bush also provided aid for the blaze.
Dutsch said no one was injured in either incident.
