The driver of a Genco Amusements truck collided with a traffic light pole in Slidell Wednesday afternoon, injuring himself and a passenger and tying up traffic for several hours.

Police said Mark Glover, 38, of Crossroads, Miss., apparently blacked out while driving on Pontchartrain Drive, running through a red light and smashing into the pole at Spartan Drive.

Both Glover and his passenger, Jerry Jones, 45, of Bogalusa, were wearing seatbelts.

"There's absolutely no doubt those seatbelts saved their lives," said Captain Kevin Foltz, spokesman for the Slidell Police Department.

Glover was taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital, and Jones was taken to Northshore Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for various injuries, including several broken ribs and facial lacerations.

Both men remain in serious but stable condition.

Initial police reports indicate Glover was not speeding, nor does it appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.

According to Foltz, who spoke to Glover at the hospital, the driver's biggest concern was for his passenger.

"When I saw him in the emergency room, the first thing he said was 'Is Mark OK? Is anyone hurt?'" said Foltz.

No charges have been brought in the accident.

" "not only was he a one man crime wave he always had other people with him", so I guess, that would take the "one man" out of the crime wave. "
