Egan on Jindal's healthcare advisory council

Pamela Egan of Covington, , founder/owner of Egan Healthcare Services and a practicing nurse practitioner in Women's Health & Anti-Aging, was recently selected as one of 60 representatives statewide to Gov. -elect Bobby Jindal's Healthcare Transition Advisory Team. She's the only nurse practitioner on the committee.

"I am honored to a part of this impressive group and look forward to participating in what ever way that I can. As a primary care provider, I am happy be a part in helping to shape the healthcare system for Louisiana," Egan said.

The Health Care Transition Advisory Council's Health Care Group will conduct public hearings to collect testimony and make recommendations to Jindal on health care issues pertaining to his health care reform plan announced during his campaign.

The Health Care Advisory Council is one of seven transition advisory councils, also including economic growth, education, ethics, hurricane recovery and emergency preparedness, government and fiscal reform and crime and public safety - all reflective of the seven policy chapters Jindal unveiled during his campaign. There are also two special committees which will examine issues pertaining to Veterans Affairs and Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Health Care Transition Advisory Council's Health Care Group held its first public hearing Nov. 19 at the LSUHSC in Shreveport.

The hearing focused on increasing access to affordable primary health care for all Louisianans. The second hearing took place Dec. 7 in Baton Rouge.

Egan, earned a master's degree in nursing from LSUHSC in New Orleans as a clinical sSpecialist in Gerontology/Mental Health and Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner. She founded Egan Healthcare with her husband in 1988. They have four children.

Egan was awarded "Nurse Practitioner of the Year" in June 2002 by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Business Professional Woman of the Year in 2001.

She is health columnist for the St. Tammany News and currently serves as vice pesident of the Republican Parish Executive Committee and president of the Junior League of Greater Covington, an organization of women committed to voluntarism and improving the community
