Dennis Eliason of Slidell was the $500 grand prize winner in the St. Tammany News "Holiday Cash Giveaway."

Eliason chose to spend his money at Rouse's.

Fourth-week winners were Ashley Snipes, $125, and Al Wilder, $75. The $50 winner's name was not available. All three fourth-week winners chose Rouse's for their prize.

Third week winners were Kathryn Kelley, who chose a $125 certificate to R.G. Jewelers; Ashley Oalmann, who took her $75 prize from Rouse's, and Gloria Fabre, who chose to spend her $50 certificate at Expressions in Gold.

The contest ran for four weeks, with entry forms published in the St. Tammany News.

In all, there is $1,500 in prize money was given away.

"Holiday Cash Giveaway" was a program sponsored by 13 St. Tammany Parish businesses and designed to encourage people to shop at home as they got a head start on holiday shopping.

Shoppers - although no purchase was necessary to participate - could go to one of 13 merchants and register for weekly prizes of $125, $75 and $50. At the end of the four-week period, all registrations were placed in a hopper and one winner was drawn for a grand prize of $500.

Winners of each prize selected which participating merchant they wanted their prize from, and they were given a gift card, good only at that merchant.

Participating merchants were Slidell Easy Pay, Inwood Gardens, RG Jewelry, Superior Tire, Lawn and Saw, Garrett Honda, Deep South Jewelers, Poole Lumber Co., Rouse's, Expressions in Gold, Lighting, Inc., Sit and Sleep and Advantage Financial.
