Twelve nominated for parish P&Z; others appointed to boards By Matthew PenixSt. Tammany News A host of nominations for the parish Planning and Zoning Commission, mosquito abatement district, tourism commission and more were recently unveiled by Parish Council members. Twelve were nominated for the nine council-appointed seats on the Planning and Zoning Commission, an important position in upcoming years as the parish begins a roughly two-year effort starting March 1 to rezone 700 square miles of St. Tammany property to conform to new parishwide zoning codes. The effort, originally expected to take up to three years to complete, aims to streamline rules for future development as St. Tammany Parish's population continues to surge and with the increase additional home sites, businesses, infrastructure and more is needed. Seven current commissioners and five new residents were nominated for the commission seats. The Parish Council is expected to vote March 8. Dale Mackie, Martha Cazaubon, Anthony Goff, Jay de la Houssaye, Anthony Lang and Ray Willie were renominated while John Sammons, Bill Matthews, Alfred Young, David L. Doherty Jr. and James Champagne accepted the nod as new commissioners. Elsewhere across the parish, new and current leaders for executive boards were appointed for a slew of other positions including Recreation District 1 in Mandeville and District 12 in Folsom, St. Tammany Fire Protection District 5 and Waterworks District 2. For Recreation District 1, Robert Whelan was appointed to replace Joseph Fitzpatrick, while District 12's board - Lonnie Allen, Willie Richardson Jr. Antoine Brumfield and Fred Oswald - were reappointed.
