Signed by all five council members, Mayor Pro Tem Trilby Lenfant read a statement Thursday night at the city council meeting addressing the recent scrutiny Mayor Eddie price and Police Chief Tom Buell have been under after media reports surfaced alleging that Buell dipped into charitable funds to help buy Price Christmas gifts.

The document expresses the council's wish to silence inquiries and comments of media and community members directed toward the council concerning the investigation of the police department and city hall. It states, "the investigation... is presently in the hands of the Legislative Auditor's office... this council has not seen any documents or reports yet... Once a report is issued, the city council will be better poised to consider an appropriate response."

Lenfant said the statement was drawn up after many of the council members admitted to receiving relentless phone calls from the public. More information on Thursday's council meeting will be in Sunday's edition of the St. Tammany News.

" Chief Tom Buell and Mayor Price continue to have our complete trust and respect. They have each admitted to less than their usual good judgement in this "Toys for
Tots" matter and Jackie and I will continue to enjoy dontating to the fund. Tom Buell has been the best Police Chief this town has ever had and his many past accomplishments ought to be listed and evualated alongside these paltry few and relatively minor errors of judgement. I'm sorry that we've placed limits on Mayor Price's service to this city. We will miss him. "

" Totally B.S. that he didn't know where the money was coming from, or he didn't want to know. How many times has he not been caught for taking something. Time for Mr.($)Price to resign. "

    " Dear Fast Eddie Nagin,

You get an $800 gift two years in a row and you don't ask where the money comes from? Here's a hint. When you are in public office you don't take ANY gifts regardless on the value. The greater the value the more questions you should be asking. "
