Madisonville group hosting arts market By Chad RuizSt. Tammany News Madisonville’s first art association is hosting an art market on the Tchefuncte River tomorrow. The non-profit organization Art for Madisonville dedicated to the promotion of local art and artists will have many original works of art by as many as 20 different artists on display on the north side of Water Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organization founder Pat Ward said the art displayed will range from wood carvings, handmade jewelry, photography and paintings, and the prices will be as low as $25 to as high as $1,000. “Right now we’re shooting to have this showing four or five times a year in early spring and early fall,” Ward said. The organization announced its birth earlier this year as the town of 700’s only art association. Ward said he founded the program while running his framing shop and discovering the large supply of undiscovered artists in the area. Artists, he said, migrate to the meandering surroundings of the Tchefuncte River because of its raw, outdoor beauty. |
