The Junior League of Greater Covington is spearheading an effort with St. Tammany Parish to create a state of the art children’s museum in the parish,
“It is a huge undertaking,” said Junior League spokesperson Sandra Chapman.

Food and drink for the event will be provided by over 40 area restaurants and beverage providers.
The parish has dedicated a four-acre site to be used for the construction of a 12,000-square-foot facility, including interior and exterior exhibit space, storage, parking and retail space.
The museum will include hands-on learning-by-doing experiences that will provide cognitive formation, gross motor play and exercise for children of all ages. Unlike many such facilities that cater mainly to toddlers, the museum will appeal to children ages 2-13 and include a technology area for older children.
In addition, the center will include programs and exhibits to appeal to school field trips and in-school learning as well as summer camp programs, birthday parties and meeting facilities.
The Junior League has initially pledged $50,000 toward the project, designated by the group as its signature project. They hope to break ground in the fall, but project costs and a completion date are not yet available, said Chapman.
Tickets can be purchased from The Spokesman Professional Bicycle Works, Huntington Learning Center, St. Romain Interiors, Egan Home Care, Habanos and The Wine Seller or online at www.jlgc.net. For more information, call 892-5258 or Tony LeMon at 898-0024.
