The Mandeville Lady Skippers volleyball team will hold tryouts May 5-9 from 2:45-4:30 p.m. for current MHS students and from 3:30-5:15 p.m. for incoming MHS students.

The annual Covington Food Bank Golf Tournament will be held at Beau Chene Country Club on May 19. The tournament will be a four-player amateur scramble. The Shotgun start will be done at noon.

LSU Tiger Tour
The LSU Tiger Tour 2008 presented by Capital One, CST and Eagle 98.1 hits the road this year traveling to 12 cities across the southern region. The tour makes its way to Covington May 22 at the Tchefuncta Country Club hosted by the Tammany Tigers TAF and Alumni Chapter. The event features appearances by national championship coach Les Miles, Trent Johnson, Skip Bertman and other special guests. The chapter will also host a VIP party prior to the event at the home of Joel and Jill Champagne.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7:30. The tour experience includes silent auction items provided by TAF and LSU merchandise for sale from the LSU Alumni Association. There will also be a special door prize, and a dinner with an open bar. Tiger fans will have an opportunity participate in the interactive experiences including the Capital One Photo Area and the CST Trivia Challenge. Louisiana Shootout is being held May 30-June 1
The Louisiana Shootout is scheduled for May 30-June 1 and has openings for teams of boys and girls age divisions 9U-17U.
It will take place at the Pelican Park Multi Court Complex, and the cost is $260 per squad. Each group is guaranteed three games with championship contests for each division.

Annual Striker/Keeper Camp

Northshore Basketball Training Center Camp coming up
Northshore Basketball Training Center, directed by Archbishop Hannan High girl’s basketball coach Charles Tracey, is gearing up for the upcoming summer camps, which will take place in June and July.
The camp hours are Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 pm. and is open to boys and girls ages 6-12.
Also, new this summer, we are offering position clinics for boys and girls Monday-Friday from 2-4 p.m. for seventh- through ninth-graders.

Youth Fishing Event to be held June 7
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service along with The Friends of Louisiana Wildlife
Refuges will sponsor the 15th annual Youth Fishing Event at Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge on June 7 from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The event will be held at the Pearl River Turnaround at Exit 11 off of I-59.
This cost is $12 and allows children ages 4-12 to experience the natural world of the refuge and the thrill of fishing. An adult must accompany all children. Registration forms will be accepted through May 2, and the event is limited to 175 children on a first-come, first-served basis. You may obtain registration forms in person at the Southeast Louisiana Refuge Complex offices at 61389 Highway 434 in Lacombe or by calling 882-2000. No phone reservations will be accepted. Completed forms with payment and a disposable copy of each child’s birth certificate may be dropped off or mailed to the Lacombe office through May 2 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Registration fees may be paid by cash, check or money order payable to Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, rod-and-reel, tackle, bait and lunch. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.

Montz camp coming up
Jared Montz, a 2001 Mandeville High graduate, will be holding several soccer camps for ages 5-18 at Pelican Park.
Participants 5-13 will be able to attend June 2-6 from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost is $180 if the payment is received by May 5, $195 if the money is paid by June 1 and $205 by June 2.
The cost includes an autographed picture, camp T-shirt, question and answer session, chances to win Montz jerseys and gear and more.
Campers will need to provide water, ball, cleats, shin guards and sunscreen.
Montz is also holding a pre-college training camp from June 3-7 for those 14-18 years of age from 6-9 p.m.
All of the pricing information is the same for this clinic as it is for the younger camp.
There will also be an adult coaching class from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. on June 7.
The fee is $65 if paid by May 5, $75 by June 6 and $80 by June 7.
Participants will get a coach’s binder with coaching plans, how to pages, sources and motivation, question and answer session along with phone and e-mail service to Montz year round.

Basketball center spring registration is going on
The Northshore Basketball Training Center is accepting spring registration for boys and girls’ evening classes for ages 6-15.
Training classes are twice a week after school with many times available for convenience. Center Director and Archbishop Hannan girls basketball coach Charles Tracey will conduct training.

Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.
Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.
Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
