Fire District 12, which covers areas north and west of Covington, saw a dramatic increase in calls due to the weather this week, said Chief Stephen Krentel. About 30 calls came into the station between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Krentel said. Of these, none concerned a working fire, and most were downed power lines, trees and trees on cars.

The department did receive a call Wednesday night concerning a car taking on water. The vehicle missed the turn on U. S. Highway 190 northbound near Copeland’s Restaurant and was partially submerged in a ditch.

“The number of calls was extremely intense in our own district, but it was far more intense in Folsom,” Krentel said, adding FD 12 had assisted Fire District 5 earlier with reported tornado damage near Folsom.
