Freedom Boat Club will officially open tomorrow as it celebrates its grand opening at 5:30 p.m. at Marina Del Ray in Madisonville.

Owner Keith D’Aunoy said this is the first Freedom Boat Club franchise to make waves in Louisiana.

The opening comes after D’Aunoy’s first attempt to open a franchise in eastern St. Tammany went awry thanks to Katrina.

“After opening a freedom boat franchise in Slidell, we moved it to Florida,” he said. “But we decided to come back because we wanted to be part of the re-stimulation of New Orleans.”

According to D’Aunoy, the boat club is a new boating lifestyle acting more like a country club for boaters.

“We’re in business to make the boating experience something special,” D’Aunoy said. “Everything people don’t like about boating, we do for them.”

Freedom Boat Club is a national organization with nearly 50 locations across the U.S. that any member of any franchise can utilize.

Anyone can become a member with an initiation fee followed by monthly dues that, in the long run, save you thousands when compared to the general upkeep and purchase of a boat, D’Aunoy said.

Members will have an assortment of boating options at their disposal, including mariner training classes and a fleet of different crafts, including pontoons and bow riders.

When ready, members need only call to schedule a particular boat for the desired day where they will have that vessel docked, fueled and ready for voyage.

Boaters are allowed to roam until sundown.
