More money raised for Abita playground

Volunteers from Abita Friends of the Park raised several hundred dollars Saturday to build a $130,000 playground in historic Abita Springs.

The four hours of fundraising at a booth outside Covington Super Wal-mart chipped away at the park’s price tag, of which less than $41,000 is still needed before construction begins June 23.

The all-volunteer construction of the community playground will last for five days. Hundreds of volunteers and thousands of dollars in donations are still needed. Sponsorship of specific park equipment is also available.

Part of the fundraising involves the sale of raffle tickets for a chance to win season tickets for LSU football. Tickets are now available at Rosie’s Bar and Abita Full Service Garage.

Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1618, Abita Springs, LA, 70420, or to P.O. Box 1593, Mandeville, LA, 70470. Make checks to Abita Friends of the Park.
