Kristen Hilliard, Miss Louisiana Jazzland and an aspiring Miss America, is not resting on her crown this summer. Instead, she is “Jazzin’ It Up for Kids,” raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network.

She and the Courtyard by Marriott are sponsoring a benefit gala Thursday from 7-10 p.m. at the Courtyard located at 101 Northpark Blvd. in Covington.

The benefit was organized with the help of the hotel to support Hilliard’s platform of the Children’s Miracle Network. For the tax deductible $50 per person ticket, each attendee will enjoy catering by Benedict’s Plantation, desserts by Nonna’s Bakery, beer, wine and specialty drinks, a silent auction and live jazz music. For ticket information, call (504) 905-8075 or (504) 957-0411 or e-mail whilliard@idnacme.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The next step in Hilliard’s pursuit of the Miss America crown is the Miss Louisiana title, which will be decided in June.

The Miss America organization nationally supports the Children’s Miracle Network and encourages their participates at all levels to raise money and awareness for this charity that raises money for children’s hospitals across the country.

Hilliard graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University this spring in music performance, specializing in the piano. In addition, she is a former Miss Southeastern. In addition to her pageant experience, Hilliard teaches at the community music school at Southeastern. While in high school, the Covington resident was home schooled.
