Covington council addresses cleanup

The Covington City Council held a special meeting Friday to consider two resolutions concerning Hurricane Katrina cleanup.

A resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into the required cooperative endeavor agreement to apply for $227,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds allocated for long term recovery projects was approved, 5-0.

The grant requires no local matching funds. The resolution also authorizes the state’s administrative consultant Hunt, Guillot & Associates, LLC to administer the program on behalf of the city. In addition, the mayor is authorized to sign any and all documents required in the submission of the required application and subsequent administration of the program.

A resolution supporting storm debris removal from the Bogue Falaya and Tchefuncte Rivers by the Natural Resource Conservation Service was also approved by a 5-0 vote.
