St. Tammany Parish government has unveiled a new Web site for area artists to market themselves.

The St. Tammany on Cultural Affairs introduced the Internet site at www.stpgov.org/artists/ that allows artists to enter personal information and eventually be part of a database the public can search.

The database will include various types of artists, including literary, musical, visual, theater and dance artists.

To join the other artists go to www.stpgov.org/arts/, click on Find an Artist, then Join Artist Database, and fill out all the required fields. The artist will continue to step two, and will eventually be able to upload photos as well.

“The idea is to create an eventual system which will be usable as a networking tool for artists and for the public,” said Jennifer Bushnell, arts coordinator for the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs. “Many artists in the area are unaware of the extent of the community of artists which exists in St. Tammany. We want to give the artists a tool to communicate with each other and with the public.”

" What a wonderful idea. We live in such a great parish. Providing a site for our gifted artists to display or advertise thier trade is just great. "
