The Northlake Christian School Wolverines baseball team won the District 7-1A championship with a 6-0 record before finishing the season as the state runner up in Class 1A losing to Ouachita Christian 5-4 in the championship game at Bringhurst Park in Alexandria. NCS finished the year at 22-7-1.
NCS’ Rowland Skinner was selected as the Coach of the Year and the Wolverines dominated the 7-1A All-District team with nine players named to the squad.
NCS’ Sam Scheibal, who will attend Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., was tabbed as the District MVP. Scheibal batted a blistering .647 to lead the Wolverines in district play. He also posted team-highs with four home runs and 14 RBIs. He also scored 10 runs.
Sophomore Bryan Picou and junior Taylor Bazzell joined Scheibal in the outfield. Picou batted .462 with four runs batted in and scored a team-high 13 runs in district action. Bazzell hit the ball at a .636 clip, second best on the team, with eight RBIs and six runs. Justin Cromartie, a UNO signee and Jason O’Rear, who will attend Millsaps College, were tabbed as two of the four pitchers. Sophomore catcher Ryan Pfefferle, who batted .375 drove in six runs and scored five times. Sophomore first baseman Zac Hawkins made the infield along with senior third baseman John Farr. Hawkins hit .353 with 10 runs batted in and scored eight times. Farr hit .500 in district with 12 runs and five RBIs. NCS freshman Tyler Clark was named a utility infielder after hitting .429 with a homer and nine runs batted in. Archbishop Hannan sophomore shortstop Logan Booksh was the lone Hawk representative named as an infielder. Booksh hit .416 with 14 RBIs and five doubles.
Christian Life Academy had six players named to the District 7-1A team including pitchers, junior Jordan Calandro and sophomore Steve O’Byrant, sophomore catcher Ryan Earles, infielders senior Zack Hendrix, junior Matthew Mitchell and senior outfielder Chris Annis. Southern Lab rounded out the all-district team with two players being named, senior Michael Collins, a utility outfielder and designated hitter senior Denzel Cummings.
NCS’ seniors Joel Brannan and Tory Marshall were named Honorable Mention along with sophomore Jordy Bloodsworth. Other players receiving honorable mention included Archbishop Hannan’s Andrew Arceneaux and Kyle Nunez. Christian Life Academy’s Josh Davis and Milo Gordy along with Southern Lab’s Jeremiah Dixon.
