Crossgates Baseball Camp is next week

Northshore assistant baseball coach Vince Ruda is holding a baseball camp at Crossgates Athletic Club on Military Road.

The clinics will be July 8-10 for children 5-6 years old and July 15-17 for those 7 and older. Cost is $70 for those camps, which will run from 1-4 p.m.

There will also be a one-day clinic for 4-year-old T-ballers on July 11 from 1-4 p.m. at a cost of $30. For more information, call 643-2049.

Red, White and Blue golf tournament

Royal Golf Club will be holding the Red, White and Blue Tournament Sunday with a 7:30 a.m. scheduled start time.

There will be two holes per scramble and players will play six holes from the red, white and blue tees.

The cost is $27 for members and $40 for non-members. The registration deadline is Saturday at noon.

Lil Sluggers still accepting sign-ups

The Lil Sluggers summer session for boys and girls ages 2-5 has begun, but late registration is welcome. The cost of the clinic is $125 for the 8-week session and each class lasts 45-50 minutes. Lil Sluggers is a program developed to teach boys and girls the basics of baseball and softball. The classes are all indoors and limited to six participants per instructor. Duhon basketball camp coming up

The Chris Duhon Basketball camp will take place July 14-18 Fritchie Park Gymnasium in Slidell for boys and girls ages 7-15. The clinic, which will be run by Salmen coach Jay Carlin, will be from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday the week of the camp and then from 8:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. on the final day.

Sandlot holding camps

Sandlot Baseball and Softball Academy in Madisonville is offering various camps in July for ages 7-14.

The baseball camp is scheduled for July 9-11. The softball camp dates are July 15-17 with another softball camp set for July 29-31. The cost is $130 per session with each session limited to the first 40 applicants.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Beginner to advanced hitting, pitching and fielding skills will be stressed at the camps led by instructors Jack Cressend, Daniel Latham, Chuck Hickman, Karl Mundt and Lacey Bertucci. For more information and to register, call 898-0723.

Dotson-Priola

The annual Dotson-Priola Fundamental Basketball Camp will be held from July 14-18. The clinic is for boys and girls ages 7-14. The camp directors are Barry Dotson, head basketball coach at Fontainebleau High, and John Priola, head coach at Mandeville High, The cost is $150, which includes a camp T-shirt and insurance. Camp registration will be held July 14 from 8:30-9 a.m. both days.

The camp begins at 9 a.m. ending at 3 p.m. each day. It features fundamental instruction, daily shooting games and contests, daily free throw, hot shot and bump competition. Campers will be grouped according to age and ability. Participants should bring a bagged lunch and drink. No lunch or beverages will be provided by Pelican Park concessions.

Octavio Gonzalez tourney in July

The Octavio Gonzalez Memorial Foundation, which is a non-profit organization to benefit the families of fallen police officers is sponsoring a 7, 8, 9 and 10-year-old baseball tournament in July. Captain Octavio Gonzalez, who was a St. John the Baptist police officer, was killed in the line of duty. He was a devoted father of two young boys and a beloved husband.

The Octavio Gonzalez Memorial Baseball Tournament will be held July 25–27 at Muss Bertolino Playground in Kenner. For more information contact Michelle Jones at (504) 581-6665.

MSC hosting

Mandeville Soccer Club is hosting summer soccer camps at Pelican Park the week of July 28.

Northshore River Anglers to meet

The Northshore River Anglers will meet every Wednesday at the Louisiana Highway 90 East Pearl Landing from 5 p.m. until dark. The cost is $25 per team and $5 more for big fish.

In July, the Northshore Basketball Training Center will host its first weekly clinics built specifically for development of shooting along with guard and forward play.

The clinic is open to boys and girls from elementary school through ninth grade. The participants will be grouped by age. The camp will focus on all aspects specific to the posted week’s objective. Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 2-4 p.m.

This will be an intense training session to give the player advanced skill and basketball IQ. There is a very limited player count for individual attention.

VIA Summer Camp

The Volleyball Institute of America is holding a summer camp during the week of July 21-25 at Northlake Christian School. The camp is for children ages 7-14. The cost is $120 for anyone pre-registered before July 15 and $135 for anyone signed up after July 15. The cost includes registration fees and a camp T-shirt. Camp sessions are scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. for participants entering first-fifth grade, ages 7-11. Those entering sixth-eighth grade, ages 12-14, will have the opportunity to register from 7-8:30 p.m.

Monday evening anglers

The Monday Evening Anglers will meet every Monday at Bonfouca Marina in Slidell at 4 p.m. with blast-off at 4:30. There is a $20 membership fee and $25 tournament fee.

Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program

The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.

Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.

Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
