Sun voters can cast early votes for a 10-year property tax to fund the area’s fire department through Friday.

The proposition, the only tax proposition on the July 19 ballot, asks voters to approve a 20-mill tax, expected to cost Sun taxpayers $33 a year from 2008 to 2017. The tax will pump $30,000 more a year into the department, said Gary Whitehead, fire chief of St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District 10.

Weekdays hours for early voting are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Early voting will be conducted in out Covington Registrar of Voters Office located at 701 N. Columbia St. For more information call 809-5500 or 646-4125.
