Covington wreck results in critical injury

Anne Mc Pherson, 28, of Covington, pulled her 1994 Mercury Sable onto Collins Boulevard from 35th Avenue about 8 a.m. Saturday morning directly in the path of a 2005 International delivery truck driven by Joseph Stogner of Tickfaw.

The truck and its cargo, weighing a combined 33,000 pounds, pushed McPherson and her vehicle about 75 feet along Collins Boulevard before it disengaged from the front bumper.

Covington Police Department spokeman Lt. Jack West said this week McPherson was still in critical condition at Tulane Hospital in New Orleans from injuries sustained in the accident.

Stogner and passengers in the truck were treated for minor injuries at Lakeview Regional Medical Center and released.

The accident is still under investigation, said West, and toxicology results will take several weeks.

Collins Boulevard was closed for about two hours Saturday morning during the accident investigation, and traffic was re-routed.
