Frught finds a safe haven in Slidell

Shirley Frught, 76, lives in Slidell with her energetic, appropriately named little dog, Fluffy. But the road to her comfortable home in St. Tammany Parish started in New Orleans and had a pleasant stopover in the town of Violet in St. Bernard Parish, then a few not-so-pleasant stays throughout the country after Hurricane Katrina crossed her path.

Firefighter, law enforcers, emergency personnel lose their hair for good cause

There was “buzzing” and smiling and lots of hair flying as 47 firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency services personnel got their heads shaved to help the Dream Factory make dreams come true for chronically and critically ill children in St. Tammany, Washington and Tangipahoa parishes.

France's national holiday inspires French menu

“Allons, enfants de la Patrie” (Let’s go, children of the fatherland) was the battle cry in July, 1789 when the French stormed the Bastille, the hated prison fortress and symbol of their suppressive monarchy. That day, July 14th, is an important to today’s French as July 4th is to us, since, like our independence day, it was the beginning of the rule by the people.
