The body of Ilena Lyons, 65, 420 N. Vermont St. in Covington, was discovered by her landlord on Thursday afternoon, and police have called the death a homicide.

Covington Police Department spokesman Capt. Jack West said Lyons, who had been in Covington just a few months, had apparently been dead a few days.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, but time of death had not been determined as of deadline Friday afternoon. The exact cause of death had also not been released, and police made no other information about the crime available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. Steve Short at 898-2648, Sgt. Robert Blount at 867-1219 or Crime Stoppers at 877-903-STOP.

A cash reward of up to $2,500 from Crimestoppers may result from information leading to the arrest of the murderer.
