Mike Strain named Legislator of the Year

Louisiana’s Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain of Covington was named 2008 Legislator of the Year by the St. Tammany chapter of the Alliance for Good Government.

“I am humbled by this award,” Strain said after receiving the award at a sold-out banquet at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans July 12. “It’s gratifying that the Alliance for Good Government took notice of the work I did.”

The award, a yearly honor, was given to Strain for his work as a District 74 state representative from 1999 to 2007 before he became agricultural commissioner.

“The group felt that Mike Strain did an outstanding job representing the interests of his constituents while practicing the highest standards of good government,” said Charles Imbornone, alliance chairman.

The Alliance for Good Government, founded in 1967, has chapters in Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes.
