Hood Northlake Chevrolet bowed out of the American Legion 17-under State Championship Tournament Friday after falling, 16-0, against Lakeside High School of Sibley, which is south of Minden. The double-elimination competition was held at Plaquemines High.

Hood Northlake Chevrolet, which went 0-2 in the tournament, finished the season with an 11-7-1 record.

The team was victimized by the walk during the two games. In Friday’s setback, Hood Northlake Chevrolet pitchers combined to surrender 10 base on balls. Charles Marque suffered the loss.

Lakeside High School got off to an early lead with six runs in the first.

Left fielder Tanner Watson had Hood Northlake Chevrolet’s lone hit off Clint Waldron, who pitched the first inning. Koty Monday and Colby Sherrod followed with two innings of no-hit ball in the victory.

Watson said his team played well throughout the summer, just not in the state tournament.

“We had a good season,” Watson said. “We could’ve done better in the state tournament, but pitching struggled, and we could have hit the ball better.”

Hood Northlake Chevrolet coach Patrick Lee said his team made contact, striking out just twice, and he added that despite going home in two games, playing in that type of atmosphere will help in the future.

“We hit the ball, but we hit it right at people and they made the plays,” Lee said. “This was a very good experience for the kids. It’s something we can learn from.”

In Thursday’s opener, Hood Northlake Chevrolet fell to Blue Stream Services (Catholic of New Iberia), 12-2, giving up 13 walks.

Hood Northlake Chevrolet took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Watson.

Blue Stream Services tied the game at 1-1 in the first then added five in the third inning to go up 6-1. Blue Stream Services tallied on a pair of bases-loaded walks, a two-run double and a passed ball.

Trailing 7-1 in the fifth, Hood Northlake Chevrolet added one more in the fifth on an RBI single by Dalton Lafrance.

Marque finished the game 2-for-3. Harrison Little was the losing pitcher.

“Any coach, Northshore, Southshore or in the state will agree that you cannot walk that many hitters and expect to win baseball games,” Lee said.

Hood Northlake Chevrolet got to the state finals by winning two games over Best Chevrolet (Mandeville High) in a best-of-three series, 9-8 on July 9 and 6-5 on July 15.
