SBBA Fall Ball registration set

The Slidell Bantam Baseball Association will hold a Fall Ball League for T-ball, Instructional Fast Pitch, Slow Pitch and baseball tomorrow from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at SBBA.

T-Ball is open to boys and girls, while fast pitch and slow pitch is for girls only. Baseball is available for boys.

Signups will be open to boys and girls between the ages of 4-15. Age groups may be combined, limited or eliminated based on the number of registered players. The Fall Ball season will take place Sept. 14-Nov. 2 at the SBBA Fields. All games will be played on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.

For Fall Ball, players will compete in the age group they will participate in next spring. Girls will register to play in the age group represented by their age as of Jan. 1, 2009 and boys will signup to participate in the age group that is represented by their age as of May 1, 2009

Bitty Batter Little League T-ball

A Bitty Batter Little League for T-ball ages 2-5 at Pelican Park is accepting registration at www.bittybatter.com.

The six-week session begins Tuesday and Aug. 29.

Lil Sluggers fall registration

Lil Sluggers is a child development program created to introduce the basics of baseball and softball to boys and girls ages 2-5. Lil Sluggers classes develop important skills such as throwing, catching, hitting and base running.

Developmentally appropriate equipment and games are used to teach the game in a fun, exciting and positive environment. All classes are held indoors with a maximum of six students per class. The fall session starts tomorrow with indoor classes held at the Coquille Sports Complex and the Sandlot in Madisonville.

SLU offers bus trips to road games

The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Athletics is offering fans the ability to travel to the Lions’ seven road football games by chartered bus during the 2008 season.

Beginning with the season-opener at Alcorn State on Aug. 30, Southeastern fans can save on gas prices and arrive at each venue in time for tailgating. Cost for the charter begins at $30 per seat for the Lions’ regular-season finale at Nicholls State on Nov. 20.

Fans are responsible for securing game tickets by calling the Southeastern Ticket Office at 549-LION or the host institution’s ticket office. All minors, ages 17 and younger, must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

Reservations must be confirmed and payment received by 4:30 p.m. the Tuesday prior to each game. Payment will be by check or money order only. Please make checks payable to the Lion Athletic Association.

Tennis tournament coming up

The United States Tennis Association Tournament sanctioned Junior Grand Prix Junior Tennis Tournament will be held Sept. 12-14 at Cross Gates Athletic Club in Slidell.

Tennis players age 10-18 may compete in ranked or unranked divisions. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 7 and the draws will be posted Sept. 9.

SLU Kickoff Golf Scramble

The fourth annual Southeastern Louisiana University Kickoff Golf Scramble is scheduled for Friday at Carter Plantation in Springfield.

The event, which benefits the Lion Athletic Association and is sponsored by Darryl D. Smith Commercial and Residential Properties, is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start. A host of SLU coaches and administrative staff will be on hand to welcome the golfers and provide previews of the upcoming athletic schedule.

Cost to enter is $150 per person or $600 per team. Entry fees include a luncheon, golf cart, greens fees, golf shirt, a cap and golf balls.

SBBA General Membership Meeting

The Slidell Bantam Baseball Association will hold its annual general membership meeting on Tuesday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in the John Wesley Center at 7 p.m. An overview of the 2007-2008 season will be presented as well as the election of the 2008-2009 board.

Registration for YMCA soccer and T-Ball is ongoing

The West St. Tammany YMCA is holding registration for youth T-Ball and soccer.

The T-Ball program will start on Sept. 10 and goes through Oct. 22 for boys and girls ages 3-5 at the Covington Youth Soccer Fields from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Soccer begins on Sept. 13 and runs until Oct. 25 for boys and girls 3-5 years old at the Covington Youth Soccer Fields from 9-10 a.m.

Velocity Gulf Coast Fastpitch is holding tryouts

The Velocity Gulf Coast Fastpitch Travel team will hold tryouts by appointment only for the fall season.

The team recently won the United States Fastpitch Association 10U Southern Nationals and placed fourth at the USFA World Series.

2008 Orpheus Golf Tournament is next month

The Original Krewe of Orpheus 2008 Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 19 at Covington Country Club in a 4-man scramble format beginning with a shotgun start at noon.

The cost is $125 per individual or $500 a team. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

Registration will take place at 10 a.m. the day of the tournament, but applications are available at www.originalorpheus.com.

Each golfer will receive a T-shirt and other items when they sign in.

There will be a jambalaya dinner following the event and the competition will feature games and prizes.

Members of Orpheus will be serving food and drinks on the course.

Flight of the Crowe golf tournament is next month

The Seventh Annual Flight of the Crowe Golf Classic 2008 will take place Sept. 19 at Oak Harbor.

Registration will take place 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. the day of the 4-man scramble event.

The entry fee is $150 per person or $550 for a four-person team. The cost includes green fees, cart, goody bag, mulligan, a putting and chipping contest, drinks, barbeque lunch along with a shirt. Non-players can pay $30 for the barbeque lunch only.

Golfers will have the opportunity to win three vehicles and a boat.

Northshore River Anglers

The Northshore River Anglers will meet every Wednesday at the Hwy. 90 East Pearl Landing from 5 p.m. until dark. The cost is $25 per team and $5 more for big fish. Registration begins at 4:30. For more information, call James at (504) 382-9595 or Chris at 710-1313.

AAU Basketball Fall Training

The Northshore Basketball Training Center is taking registrations for the fall Amateur Athletic Union training season, which is a prelude to the start of the 2009 AAU season.

The center plans to have nine AAU teams again this year from ages 8-14 for both boys and girls. Training has already begun and goes through mid December, but registration is still being accepted. Go online to register at www.nsbbtc.com or call Charles Tracey at 789-2589.

Monday evening anglers

The Monday Evening Anglers will meet every Monday at Bonfouca Marina in Slidell at 4 p.m. with blast-off at 4:30. There is a $20 membership fee and $25 tournament fee.

Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program

The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.

Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.

Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
