For clean, family entertainment, try the new Louisiana Opry that will debut in Covington Saturday night at the Greater Covington Center Fuhrmann Auditorium. Jerry Varley, one of the producers of the show, said at the Covington city council meeting that the show is geared to the family.

“Everything is clean, even the song lyrics,” Varley said.

The show will feature Mike Cash, Barry Corkern, Kaitlynn Courville, George Freeman, Doug Owens, Pat Varley and Kayla Woodson and will pay tribute to some of country music’s greatest stars, said Varley.

The live country and gospel show will feature new talent and will be a professional production. Varley said that acts must audition for the show; it will not be karaoke night in Covington, but instead will be quality family entertainment. The monthly show already has acts booked through 2009, Varley said.

Ticket prices are $10 adults, $5 children and children under four free. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Group discounts are available.
