Prep Gridiron Report Thursday

Inaugural episode features Pervel, Favre and Brown

Prep Gridiron Report debuts on air at WLAE and online with live home page chat at Nola.com tomorrow at 9 p.m.

High school football is going primetime and interactive this season with the Prep Gridiron Report, set to air Thursdays at 9 p.m. on WLAE, concurrent with a live chat on Nola.com, to be mediated by show host Jay Jay Richardson. 

The sports talk show-to run from jamborees through the playoffs-will take you behind the scenes with players, athletic directors, recruiters, coaches, celebrities and statewide sports media.  Richardson, the show’s host, will recap the previous week’s top games with commentary, video and discussion of hot prep football topics such as last year’s Hahnville title forfeiture–this week’s special focus.

The New Orleans Public Schools communications department will provide video coverage of select weekly games, will generate student-produced inserts for the Prep Gridiron Report and provide live stream to Nola.com from many Orleans parish prep football games. 

The inaugural episode features Mike Pervel, sports editor of the St. Tammany News; Larry Favre, former head football coach at Fontainebleau High School and now athletic director for St. Tammany Parish schools; and, cheer expert Power 102.9 FM on air personality, Downtown Lesli Brown. 

Brown, a former cheerleader for McMain High School in New Orleans, will merge her weekly Thursday chat with the Nola.com live event.  Brown’s Thursday radio show will also be taped by NOPS where cheerleaders from throughout the state are expected to gather in person during to talk football, cheer, fans and bands.

“It is all about empowerment and owning that sense of identity that comes with a close affiliation with your school. All of us at Power 102.9 FM want to send the message out that we are role models and here to serve the community,” Brown said.

Segments throughout the season will also feature an up close and personal interviews with players, sports personalities and highlights on the best of cheer, bands and fans with expanded coverage and specials during playoffs and finals, including segments produced by high school and college students. The show will benefit of statistics and other information available through Nola.com and its exclusive relationship with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
