Local volleyball players put their skills to the test tomorrow as the Mandeville High School Varsity Volleyball Jamboree takes to the court at the Skippers gym. Twelve local teams will be featured, including two squads from MHS. The action gets under way at 3:30 with simultaneous competition being played on two courts.

MHS second-year coach Christy Sanantonio said the Skippers are hosting this year’s jamboree due to facility renovations at Northshore High School, which normally hosts the annual event.

“The jamboree has become a popular kickoff event for volleyball. Northshore coach Sandy Blancher always does a great job, so we decided to step up this time around to host the jamboree,” Sanantonio said. “It’s like a coming out party for the volleyball teams to get the fans excited about the regular season. We have lots of talented teams, which will be competing. It’s a good opportunity for fans to see the wonderful talent on display in our area,” Sanantonio added.

Mandeville High, Northlake Christian School, St. Scholastica Academy and Northshore High will participate in Wave One.

Slidell High, Salmen High, Archbishop Hannan and Ponchatoula High will compete in Wave two, while Mandeville High Silver, Pearl River High, Pope John Paul II and Hammond High will represent Wave Three.

The format for tomorrow’s jamboree is one game played to 25 with a cap at 25. Admission to the jamboree is $4 for adults and $1 for students with school identification.
