Three local churches hosting remembrance events

The third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina'��s devastation in St. Tammany Parish will be low-key as compared to the big ceremony last year at Northshore Beach that was sponsored by the St. Tammany Parish government.

Slidell was probably the hardest hit area in the parish since the storm'��s eye passed right over the city and left half the town under 6 to 8 feet of water for several hours.

Neither the parish nor the city governments have any official ceremony planned today. However, three local churches are offering special ceremonies to honor those who died in the storm and to remember the emergency personnel who helped the area recover.

The first event will be at noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 313 Westchester Place. There will be a '��Memory Bells for Katrina'�� bell-ringing ceremony. From 4-8 p.m. the Sovereign Grace Homeland Mission, 2021 Gause Blvd., will hold an event called '��K3: A Community Celebration.'�� During the ceremony, the church will unveil its Wall of Praise that will showcase notes and photos thanking those volunteers and emergency workers who came to the aid of the parish and city.

Finally, Christ Episcopal Church at 1534 Seventh St. will hold a special service starting at 7 p.m. called '��Remembrance, Reflection and Renewal.'��
