A Franklinton man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday for the death of Mandeville man in a Causeway accident three years ago.

As his trial was set to begin Monday, Troy Seeger, 43, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and vehicular negligent injuring for the Aug. 8, 2005, accident that killed Wayne Corkern.

Seeger was accused of smacking his Ford Econoline into Corkern’s Lincoln Continental after Corkern got a flat tire five miles south of Mandeville, court officials confirmed.

The Continental burst into flames, and Corkern suffered second-degree burns to 40 percent of his body, District Attorney Walter Reed spokesman Rick Wood confirmed.

Corkern died of wounds to his back and lungs two hours later at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.
