The Northlake Christian Wolverines continued preparation for their regular season Friday night by participating in the St. Martin’s Jamboree at Tony Porter Athletic Field in Metairie. The format for the jamboree called for the Wolverines to play one 15-minute game against the Lusher Lions, followed by a second 15-minute game against the St. Martin’s Saints.

In the first game the Wolverines nipped the Lions, 3-0, on a 27-yard field goal by Kevin Pence as time ran out.

Northlake presented a balanced attack, with 43 yards passing and 46 yards rushing in the time limited contest. Derek Williams led Northlake in rushing with 20 yards on just two carries, and quarterback Timmy Broussard finished with four completions on six attempts, with no interceptions. Northlake’s defense in the firstcontest was led by Alex Reed, who finished with three solo tackles and two fumble recoveries.

In the second contest, the Wolverines played to a scoreless tie against the Saints. Once again, Northlake’s passing game was reasonably efficient, with Broussard completing four passes on eight attempts for 46 yards, including two 16-yard completions to Taylor Bazzell and Tyler Clark, respectively.

However, a series of penalties hurt the Wolverines each time they threatened to score.

Northlake’s defense completed a double shutout, however, and was led once again by Alex Reed, who had two solo tackles.

Next week the Wolverines begin the regular season on the road at White Castle.
