The Mandeville Skippers and West Jefferson Buccaneers will tee it up tonight at 7 in Skipper Stadium.

The game, originally scheduled for Friday night, has been moved up with the approaching Hurricane Ike.

Mandeville fell to John Curtis, the defending Class 2A champs, 9-7 in the MHS Jamboree.

Bertoniere

Mandeville coach Guy LeCompte said West Jeff likes to spread things out. “They mix it up, going under center and from the shotgun.”

LeCompte said he has one game film from West Jeff’s jamboree against Higgins.

Coach LeCompte said his club is healthy. LeCompte said senior Andy Bertoniere would get the starting nod this week, running the Skippers’ spread offense.

LeCompte said junior John Wenzel could also see some time at quarterback, depending on the flow of the game.

“The game preparation phase has changed due to everything being moved up,” LeCompte said. “Everybody’s routine is messed up by all the missed practices and the short week. The team that shows up with the most enthusiasm on their return will probably turn in a better performance to carry over to the game.”

Mandeville had its first practice on Monday following Hurricane Gustav.
