The Gourmet Gala fundraiser, “Under the Tuscan Moon,” benefiting K-Bar-B Youth Ranch and Rainbow Child Care Center, will go on at the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell Sunday as originally scheduled.

According to board member Hazel Harrod, uncertainty set in when several board members and other participants evacuated prior to Hurricane Gustav.

The news of another possible major storm to hit this weekend didn’t help matters.

“We were on pins and needles,” said Harrod. “Now that it looks like Ike is not coming this way we can all breathe a little easier.”

Harrod noted that dozens of local businesses and individuals have generously donated prizes for the two auctions to take place. Included among the items up for bid are original artwork by Phil Galatas for the “Under the Tuscan Moon” poster, autographed footballs from the New Orleans Saints and LSU Coach Les Miles, jewelry, coin collections, autographed cookbooks, Slidell Little Theatre memberships and more.

Gift cards or certificates for various restaurants, spa and beauty services, as well as rounds of golf at area courses, are also included.

A number of local restaurants will offer food samplings, to be paired with specialty wines, beers and cocktails. Also on tap is live entertainment by Witness and a fireworks display at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $75 each and may be purchased at Habanos, Java Jungle, Petals & Stems, The Wine Market and the Northshore Harbor Center.
