Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks fell to the St. Martin’s Episcopal Saints, 28-6, Friday night on the road in Metairie.

Hannan (0-2) dropped its second consecutive road game. Trailing 20-0, senior tailback Adam Lewis put the Hawks on the board with a 4-yard run midway through the second quarter. The extra point was missed when the snap was mishandled, and the Hawks trailed 20-6 at the half.

St. Martin’s upped its record to 2-0.

Hannan coach George Templet said his team fell behind early once again.

“We trailed right out of the gate, falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter. They set up in the Wing-T and ran the ball right at us. They rotated their backs, and each of them runs hard,” Templet said. “We knew going in they were going to primarily rush the ball.”

The Hawks’ defense was able to force four turnovers, recovering three, and junior free safety Ben Condon intercepted a pass.

“Our defense did a good job forcing turnovers, but we didn’t take advantage of those opportunities. Not being able to put points on the board after those miscues hurt our chances,” Templet added.

“We were able to move the ball, but we had some holding penalties, which killed drives. We took care of the ball, but not taking advantage of their mistakes was the difference.”

Hannan will host Ridgewood Friday in the Hawks’ homecoming game, being played at Hammond High School.
