Some of the best barbecue teams in the South will fire up their pits Nov. 15 from 7 a.m. to midnight to compete for top honors at the first WST Electric Barnyard Barbecue Smackdown competition at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville.

One of 300 Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned events throughout the country, professional and patio teams will compete for prize money in the following categories: pulled pork, ribs, chicken and beef.

For $10, the public is invited to sample barbecue from the competitor’s pits while enjoying live music from local bands such as the Storyville Stompers.

Attendees will vote for their favorite barbecue by putting money in a donation jar located on each team’s table.

The professional and patio teams who raise the most cash will receive the People’s Choice Award at the end of the competition.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Children’s Hospital.

Children’s Hospital in New Orleans is a 218-bed, nonprofit medical center offering the most advanced pediatric care for children from birth to 21 years. With more than 40 pediatric specialties and nearly 400 physicians, it is the only full-service hospital exclusively for children in Louisiana and the Gulf South.
