Hollywood South makes an appearance

Hollywood South meets the Ozone Film Festival this weekend in downtown Covington.

The Ozone Film Festival, an independent film festival, kicks off with a pre-fest event Thursday from 7-9 p.m. titled “Film Meets Business.” Local and regional commercial producers will view the new TV commercial category entries and discuss their projects. Local business owners thinking about TV advertising as well as guests of OFF 2008 are invited to attend at the Covington Trailhead.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the Ozone Film Festival presents three nights of independent films all at 7 p.m., including the 100 percent Louisiana-made comedy “Dirty Politics” by Steven Esteb. This feature presentation of the festival will be presented at the Fuhrmann Auditorium Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Other films include documentaries, short films and experimental and animated shorts and will be shown beginning at 7 p.m. at the Covington Trailhead and Haik Park Outdoor Theater.

From 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, workshops and panel discussions by industry professionals will take place at Brunner Gallery, 215 N. Columbia St. Learn what’s really going on in the Louisiana film industry.

Throughout the festival, there will be live music at The Green Room Music Club, Covington Trailhead, Haik Park and Brunner Gallery. Performers include Jimmy Robinson, Living Tree, Clint Maegdon, WTUL, Phil Degruy, Kris Babylon, Space Trumpet, The Cappuccino Quartet and Bonerama.

Saturday from 1 until 5 p.m., multimedia artist Nick Hasslock will demonstrate art techniques, while musician Kris Babylon performs at Haik Park on North Columbia Street.
