Mandeville’s Skippers turned in a solid defense effort Friday night, shutting down the St. Paul’s Wolves offense to secure a 17-0 district opening victory at Hunter Stadium in Covington.

Newman's Luquette proves too much for NCS
Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines hung tough for three quarters against the Newman Greenies Friday night at William Pitcher Field in Covington, but were reminded by the Greenies’ outstanding quarterback, Wes Luquette, that football is a four quarter sport, as Newman rode the wave of Luquette’s four second quarter touchdown passes to clip the Wolverines 42-20 in a non district contest that dropped Northlake’s record to 1-2 for the season.

FHS makes early statement defeating MHS
Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs (10-0) made an early district statement Thursday, downing the Mandeville Lady Skippers in four games, 25-15, 25-13, 14-25, 25-11, at MHS to remain unbeaten in district play with a 4-0 mark. Both clubs entered the contest tied for first place at 3-0.

Pearl River Rebels runs away in second half, rolling past Loranger High, 35-13
After battling to a 7-7 tie after the first half, Pearl River used the legs of Will Reed and James Gillum and the lead blocking of Jeremiah Levy to move its record to 3-0 on the season with a 35-13 drubbing of the Class 3A Loranger Wolves Friday night at home. The loss dropped the Wolves to 1-2 on the year.

Pope John Paul II (2-1) hosts the Northlake Christian School Wolverines (1-2) tonight at Lester Latino Jaguar Field. The Jaguars are coming off a 20-0 homecoming victory over the Sarah T. Reed Olympians. The Wolverines fell prey to Newman, 42-20, allowing Greenies’ senior quarterback Wes Luquette to toss for six touchdowns.
