Man to serve one year sentence for impersonating Navy soldier

A Holden man who wore the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Navy Cross, the nation’s second highest military decoration, during his wedding in Slidell turned out to be a fake and was sentenced to 12 months home confinement, federal authorities said this week.

Andy Jerome Ticker, 42, wore the decorations on a white U.S. Navy captain dress uniform to impress other wedding guests, federal authorities said.

But it turned out “Ticker has never been in the Navy nor any branch of the military,” U.S. Attorney Jim Letten’s office said in a press release.

U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey sentenced Ticker to a year of home arrest, two years of supervised probation when released and a $500 fine.

The case was investigated by the New Orleans office of the United States Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

" What a way to start off a new marriage. I have a great deal of respect for our USA, but have to wonder about our tax dollars being used to investigate this crime. I totally agree that this knucklehead wearing medals that should only be displayed by this countries real heros is sick and deserves a swift kick, or maybe a fine, but a year of house arrest seems a little strong.
