Wilson accounts for four scores

Clearwood Junior High School’s Jay Wilson tallied four touchdowns, helping the Cougars knock off cross-town rival St. Tammany Junior High’s Wildcats, 32-20, in a game held Monday at Salmen.

Clearwood (4-1) is 2-1 in district play.

Wilson’s four touchdowns came on a kickoff return, he caught a long pass from Chase Boitnott, he recorded a 70-yard run for a TD and he threw a halfback pass for another tally.

Hasaan Ard added another rushing touchdown for the Cougars.

Clearwood coach Patrick Armand said that while Wilson had an outstanding game, the win was a team effort with all three phases of the game contributing equally.

William Pitcher downs Bogalusa

The William Pitcher Junior High Panthers defeated the Bogalusa Junior High Timberjacks, 22-14, Tuesday at home.

William Pitcher upped its season record to 4-0. The Panthers host the St. Tammany Junior High Wildcats Thursday at William Pitcher.

Deonte Casnave tallied two touchdowns for the Panthers, and was successful on a two-point conversion. Casnave was the Panthers’ leading rusher with 120 yards. Marcus Gaines tallied the Panthers’ other score.

Quarterback Andrew Breeland connected with Jabre Pea on a two-point conversion following Gaines’ tally. Breeland, a two-way performer, also playing free safety, intercepted two passes and was in on eight tackles for the Panthers.

Cooper tallies twice in victory

Slidell Junior High’s Mike Cooper ran for two touchdowns in a 24-0 win over the Fontainebleau Junior High Hurricanes in a game held Tuesday at Slidell High School.

Slidell improved to 3-0, while Fontainebleau fell to 0-3.

Cooper’s first touchdown was a 5-yarder to open the scoring in the first quarter. Rawn Richardson caught a pass from Thomas Thornton to make it 8-0 on the two-point conversion.

The score stayed that way until the third quarter when Cooper found the end zone once again, this time from 16-yards out.

Like the first one, Richardson and Thornton hooked up for a two-pointer and it was 16-0.

In the fourth quarter, Richardson hit pay dirt on a 47-yard run. Thornton ran in the two-point-conversion to cap the scoring at 24-0.

The Tigers were led defensively by Adam Perronne and Matt Robinson, who each had five tackles.

Slidell coach Joey Brockhoff said he was happy with the way his unit performed.

“Defense played really well (Tuesday),” Brockhoff said. “They kept a lot of pressure on their offense until we were able to get our offense going late in the second half.”

Brockhoff added the game was better than the score suggests.

“Fontainebleau played us pretty tough,” Brockhoff said. “It was 8-0 until the last play of the third quarter.”
