Phillip M. Lynch Jr. said Tuesday he has decided to withdraw from the runoff election against Susan Leonard for the remaining seat as 4th Ward Justice of the Peace.
Lynch came in second in Saturday’s voting behind Marie Taylor, who won one of the two 4th Ward seats. Lynch garnered 3,028 votes, while Leonard, who ran third, had 2,140 votes.
Lynch said he decided to withdraw from the race after discussing it with his wife, Joanna, their two sons and a few close friends.
“I have faithfully served the citizens of the 4th Ward, including greater Mandeville, for the last 12 years. I brought 19 years of experience as an attorney to the public and have sought to treat everyone with dignity and respect in handling my official duties,” he said. “My season as a public servant in the office of Justice of the Peace has now concluded, and I now wish to step aside and allow someone else to serve. I look forward to providing a smooth transition for whomever takes over as Justice of the Peace, and I pledge my full support and assistance in that effort.”
Lynch said will return to his law practice full time and is looking forward to spending more time with his wife and sons and in the ministry.
“I thank the voters of Ward 4 for having the confidence and trust in me and for allowing me the privilege of serving them for the two terms I served as their local judge,” he said.
