The foursome of Gary Tranchina, Joe Rotolo, Dan Willwerth and Travis Markey shot 18-under par and won the Slidell High School Baseball Boosters Golf Tournament Sept. 27 at Oak Harbor Golf Club.

Markey is a senior at Slidell High and a member of the school’s golf and football team.

Tranchina, who served as his foursome’s captain, said it was an outstanding day of golf.

“It was gorgeous, and we had a great turnout,” Tranchina said. “Our team was playing some very good golf. The course was in excellent condition, and we were very happy the baseball boosters golf tournament was a success.”

The four-man scramble featured 25 teams and close to 100 golfers. Contests included closest-to-the-hole, putting and longest drive. Mike Noto won the closest-to-the-hole. Hal Adams won the putting contest.

The event also had a raffle and an auction. Part of the auction included a Matt Forté autographed jersey along with a Nick Schwaner autographed jersey. Forté, a 2004 SHS graduate, was the Chicago Bears’ second-round pick and 44th overall in last year’s draft. Schwaner, also an SHS grad, is heading into his junior season with the University of New Orleans baseball team as a first baseman.

Slidell Baseball Booster Club President Tim Livingston said things went well for the tournament.

“The weather was beautiful, and everybody had a great time,” Livingston said. “We had 70 sponsors. We are appreciative of the donations from the sponsors.”

He added the golfers and volunteers also helped make it a great tournament.

“The golfers were entering a lot of contests. The contestants were extremely generous in their support of this charity event, and we’re grateful for their participation. We had people from the booster club helping in the tournament. Everything ran smoothly with a lot of hard work. It was an all-day affair.”

Livingston also gave kudos to baseball coaches Sam Abney, Scott Schwaner and Bruce Dupree helping to acquire sponsors and teams.
