Covington celebrating Homecoming 2008

The Covington High School Student Council, along with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pro Start (Culinary), Art and ROTC, has scheduled many festivities to celebrate Homecoming 2008.

Each grade level has decorated a designated hall of CHS with this year’s theme, “Welcome to the Jungle!” The Student Council has scheduled daily dress-up days and lunch activities with the traditional parade and bonfire Oct. 16. On Friday, Oct. 17, the varsity cheerleaders will hold a pep rally where the court will be escorted by their mothers. After the pep rally, the CHS Pro Start students will host a mother/daughter luncheon for the court. The week’s festivities culminate with the football game Oct. 17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The “Fighting Lions” will face their district opponent, the Hammond Tornadoes. CHS invites all alumni and community members to participate in the homecoming events.

During halftime of the homecoming game, the administration and Student Council will present the court and announce the CHS Homecoming Queen and her Maid-of-Honor. CHS Homecoming Queen 2007 Alyssa Vicari will crown her successor. The new queen, maid-of-honor and their court will also be presented at the homecoming dance Oct. 18.

Senior Maid Kimberly Patrice Alexander is the daughter of Janine Patrice Phillips and Edward Dan Alexander. Alexander is a four-year member of the FCA, two-year member of the CHS Golden Silks and Foreign Language Club and a one-year member of Hi-Y and Health Occupations Students of America. In addition, Alexander is a CHS honor student. This is her first appearance on the court. She enjoys dancing, reading and listening to music. Her post-secondary plans include attending Southeastern Louisiana University and majoring in nursing.

Senior Maid Marissa Elizabeth Alvero is the daughter of Lorrie Marie and Vince Felix Alvero. Alvero is a four-year member of FCA and a three-year member of the National Honor Society. This is her first appearance on the homecoming court. She was previously honored as a junior on the CHS Sweetheart Court. Alvero was a Lady Lions basketball player her freshman year and a soccer player her sophomore year as well as a varsity cheerleader her junior and senior years. Alvero is a CHS honor student and received the Math and Science Women’s Engineering Award her junior year. She enjoys reading, cooking and horseback riding. Her post-secondary plans include attending Louisiana State University and majoring in biological sciences.

Senior Maid Elizabeth Anne Cooper is the daughter of Priscilla and Kenneth Cooper. This is her second appearance on the court having previously been honored her junior year. Cooper is a four-year member of FCA, a varsity cheerleader and an honor roll student. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, reading, horseback riding and spending time with friends and family. Her post-secondary plans include attending SLU and majoring in nursing.

Senior Maid Sarah Elizabeth Plumb is the daughter of Linda Marie and Theodore Allen Plumb. She is the senior class vice president, two-year member of the varsity cheerleaders (currently the co-captain), a three-year member of Student Council, a three-year member of NHS, a two-year member of FLC and a one-year member of FCA. She has previously been a two-year junior varsity cheerleader. Plumb is a CHS honor roll student and has been chosen as a CHS Leading Lion. In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies and spending time with friends and family. Her post-secondary plans include attending LSU and pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.

Senior Maid Kayla Mekuel Rushing is the daughter of Umeko Shandwell Rushing. This is Rushing’s fourth appearance on the court having previously been honored her freshman, sophomore and junior years. Rushing is a three-year member of FCA. She enjoys reading, shopping and spending time with friends and family. Her post-secondary plans are to attend Delta College and become a medical assistant.

Senior Maid Jade Ashley Sanzone is the daughter of Angela Gayle Rusich and Jason Dean Sanzone. This is her first year on the homecoming court. She is a three-year member of FCA, a one-year member of Global Citizen Core and a CHS honor student. In her spare time, Sanzone enjoys dancing, attending church, spending time with family and friends and playing soccer. Her post-secondary plans include college and a degree in pharmacy.

Junior Maid Ta’Kia Deshae’ Ard is the daughter of Shelia Michelle Owens and John J. Ard. Ard is a three-year member of FCA and a two-year member of the CHS soccer team. This is her second appearance on the homecoming court having previously been honored her sophomore year. She enjoys dancing, shopping and spending time with her family. Her post-secondary plans include attending Spellman University and majoring in fashion design.

Junior Maid Jennie Lynann Dufrene is the daughter of Kim and Christopher B. Loyd. Dufrene is a three-year member of the Dancin’ Darlins’, Junior Class Representative, a three-year member of FCA, a one-year member of FLC and a CHS honor roll student. She was previously the sophomore class president. As a Dancin’ Darlin’, Dufrene was chosen as an American All-Star for two consecutive years. In her spare time, Dufrene enjoys dancing, singing and spending time with friends. Her post-secondary plans include attending LSU and majoring in nursing.

Junior Maid Ashley Lynn Robino is the daughter of Amy and Troy Topey. She is a three-year member of FCA and a two-year member of the Dancin’ Darlins’. This is her first appearance on the court. Robino was previously honored as a sophomore on the CHS Sweetheart Court. In her spare time, Robino enjoys teaching dance, designing hair and make-up and spending time with friends and family. Her post-secondary plans include becoming a cosmetologist and dance teacher.

Junior Maid Andrea Chanté Tyson is the daughter of Prusilla and André Tyson. She is a three-year member of the CHS Track team, a three-year member of FCA, a two-year member of the CHS Soccer team and member of the culinary arts program. Tyson is also a CHS honor student and has received the Perfect Attendance award for her sophomore year. This is her first appearance on the CHS Homecoming Court. In her spare time, Tyson enjoys dancing, stepping, reading and playing soccer. Her post-secondary plans include attending Southern University and a culinary arts school to become a chef.

Sophomore Maid Kenyatta Andjoua Barney is the daughter of Angela and Wiley Lee Powell Jr. She is a two-year member of the Lady Lions basketball team and a two-year member of FCA. This is her second year on the court, having previously been honored her freshman year. Barney was also honored last year as a Freshman Maid on the CHS Sweetheart Court. She also served as Queen of the Louisiana Home and Foreign Mission Baptist State Convention.

She enjoys singing, dancing and spending time with friends. Her future plans include attending Xavier University and majoring in pharmacy.

Sophomore Maid Ashley Marie Vicari is the daughter of Penny and Jake Vicari Jr. She is currently the Sophomore Class President and was previously the Freshman Class President. Vicari is a two-year member of the Dancin’ Darlins’, FCA, Student Council and Lions About Positive Decisions. She is also a CHS honor roll student. Vicari enjoys dancing and spending time with friends and family. Her post-secondary plans include attending LSU and pursuing a degree in the health field.

Freshman Maid Chandler Brielle DeJean is the daughter of Tara and Bob Pellegrin. She is the Freshman Class President, a member of FCA and Next Generation. DeJean is also a junior varsity cheerleader. Her hobbies include cheering for the LSU Tigers, traveling and boating. DeJean’s post-secondary plans include attending either University of Mississippi or LSU and pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.

Freshman Maid Bianca Jaa’nee Smith is the daughter of Jaa’mal Smith and Al Mack. She is a stat girl for the CHS football team and a member of FCA. In her spare time, Smith enjoys singing, helping children with their homework at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Covington and spending time with friends. Her post-secondary plans include attending LSU and pursuing a degree in business.
