Fontainebleau High set for homecoming

Students finish exams, celebrate with 'Spirit Week'

Fontainebleau High School celebrated homecoming this week with festivities finishing through the weekend.

On Thursday, a pep rally was held, and today, FHS will play Covington High School in the Dawg Pound at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow, FHS will hold its homecoming dance at the Castine Center in Mandeville at 8 p.m.

This week was busy as students took their first nine weeks exams in conjunction with Homecoming Spirit Week.

Monday was Hawaiian Clothing Day. Tuesday was Tye-Dye Shirts Day. Wednesday was Nerdy Day and Thursday was Homecoming T-shirts Day – by classes.

Fontainebleau High School Homecoming Maids for 2008 are:

Freshman Angelica Nicole Batiste, daughter of Kimberly Smith, has won Academic Awards in both math and English. Batiste works with the Lacombe Recreation Department, and she plans to attend college to become a lawyer. Her uncle, Timothy Smith, will be her escort.

Sophomore Stephie Lynn King, daughter of Cheril Carey and Robert Jeanfreau, is a Student Council representative and also enjoys participating in sports at Pelican Park and dancing for Dance Unlimited. She volunteers during the summer at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. King’s college plans include studying culinary arts at Nicholls State University to prepare for her goal of opening restaurants across the country. Her escort will be Robert Jeanfreau, her stepfather.

Sophomore Taylor Anne Pauly, the daughter of Richard and Sharon Pauly, is a talented art student who was a finalist in the Keep Mandeville Beautiful art contest. She enjoys fencing, fishing, playing the piano and when she can, snowboarding. Taylor’s goal is to major in computer graphics or video game design at Louisiana State University. Her father, Richard Pauly, will be her escort.

Junior Chelcy Elizabeth Morse is the daughter of Russell and Cheryl King. She plays basketball, enjoys listening to music and snorkeling. Her community involvement includes working in her church daycare and at the nursing home. Morse hopes to attend Penn State University, where she will major in journalism. Her escort will be her father, Russell King.

Junior Allison Elaine Simeon is the daughter of Ken and Linda Simeon. In addition to participating in dance for 13 years, Simeon is also an active member in several school clubs. In her freshman year, she joined Key Club and Student Council. This year she continues to be a Student Council representative and is also a member of National Honor Society and Bulldog Buddies. Simeon has also received awards in math and English. She volunteers in the local community by participating in clean-up campaigns, works with her church youth group and has attended mission trips. Simeon would like to attend LSU and become an emergency room nurse. Her father, Ken Simeon, is her escort.

Junior Kyashia Lorell Clark, daughter of Rodrigo and Tracie Booth, plans to one day be a pediatrician. She is involved in Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council and Bulldog Buddies. Clark has received awards for Excellence in English and for Most Knowledgeable in World History. Her escort will be her father, Rodrigo Booth.

Senior Caroline Brooke Waters is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Waters. A member of the FHS broadcast team since her junior year, Waters is also a member of Key Club. She served as a class senator during her freshman year, participated in Powder Puff from her freshman through junior years and is a Top Dog this year. Waters has been in talented theater since her freshman year, performing in “Fame,” “Mash,” “The Beverly Hillbillies,” “The Three Musketeers” and “Barefoot in the Park.” She volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. Waters’ goal is to attend LSU and major in mass communications. Escorting Caroline will be her father Kenneth Montelle Waters III.

Senior Sherice Duane Williams is the daughter of Sheri Williams and Dwayne Kelly and her guardians, Clarence and Gale Landor. She is a Bulldog Buddy, Top Dog and a member of the choir since her freshman year. Williams enjoys watching football and basketball games and has worked at a childcare center for several years. Her future plans include working in the field of child development. Her guardian, Clarence L. Landor III will be her escort.

Senior Sara Elizabeth Shoultz is the daughter of Robert and Vivian Shoultz. A member of the Dazzlers dance team, Shoultz is also the public relations officer for National Honor Society. As a freshman, she was a member of Student Council and Students Against Destructive Decisions. Shoultz has served as class senator since her sophomore year, and as a junior, she joined the FHS Broadcast team, Foreign Language Club and Yearbook Club. She is also involved in Bulldog Buddies, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Top Dog. Her awards include honor roll and selection as American All-Star’s Most Spirited. She has volunteered in Relay for Life and Monster Mash. Shoultz is interested in majoring in biology and attending LSU. Robert Schoultz, her father, will be her escort.

Senior Shannon Ashley Malbrough, the daughter of Shawn and Ami Malbrough, is a member of the FHS choir, National Honor Society and Top Dog. In her junior year, Malbrough was a member of the Yearbook Club. In addition to honor roll recognition, she received a Superior Award in Large Group Ensemble. Malbrough is active in her church youth group and will be going to Thailand on a mission trip. A Bulldog Buddy, she has also volunteered for Monster Mash. Her goal is to major in chemistry at LSU. Her father Shawn Malbrough will be her escort.

The FHS Homecoming senior escorts are:

Kyle Kenneth Gurievsky, son of Barry and Darlene Gurievsky, is a four-year member of the Bulldogs football and soccer teams. He started on the tennis team as a sophomore and was recognized as Most Improved. As a junior, he received the Team Award in soccer. Gurievsky was actively involved in post-hurricanes Katrina and Gustav community clean-ups. His future plan is to attend college.

Jason Allen Green, son of Wayne and Lisa Green, is a varsity basketball letterman, playing all four years; he has been a starter since his sophomore year. He is a three-year member of National Honor Society and a two-year member of the Environmental Club. Green has served as a class senator for four years. Last year, he was selected to represent FHS at Louisiana Boys State. He has been on the honor roll since his freshman year. Green volunteers as an after-school tutor and is a Bulldog Buddy this year. For the past two years, he has participated in the Lake Pontchartrain Clean Sweep. Green plans to attend college after graduation.

Benjamin Michael Alleman is the son of Reed and Elaine Alleman. In 2008, he earned the Outstanding Junior Band Member award in piano and percussion and received the Outstanding Musicianship Award at the Loyola Jazz Festival. Alleman earned the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Superior Award for his piano solo in 2003 and in 2004. In 2005, he received both the Superior and Gold Cup Awards for piano solos. From 2002-2005, he was recognized for his musical composition, receiving the Award of Excellence in the Reflections contest. Alleman was instrumental in creating a team to compete in the 2007-2008 Winter Guard International; the team place second in the state. He is a section leader in Jazz Ensemble One, Marching Band and Winter Guard International. Alleman’s community involvement reflects his passion for music. He has performed classical works on the piano for the New Heights Benefit for Disabled Children since 2004. In 2005 and 2006, he organized a rock band to play for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Benefit and in 2006, Benjamin organized a jazz quartet, which performed at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home. His goal after graduation is to earn a degree in music education, with an emphasis in jazz studies.

Clay Brennan Fritscher, son of Mark and Julie Fritscher, has played on the football team since his freshman year and has earned the Captain’s Award for the past two years. As a junior, he was awarded Most Valuable Player for the Offense. As a freshman and sophomore he played baseball. A member of the tennis team, as well as Track and Field since his junior year, Fritscher received the Rookie of the Year award in both. His club involvements include Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the past four years, National Honor Society for three years and National Hispanic Honor Society for the past two years. Fritscher is also a Top Dog and a Bulldog Buddy. In his sophomore year, he received the English II award. Following Hurricane Katrina, he volunteered in community cleanup and construction. Fritscher plans to attend college after graduation.

Nicholas Michael Morris, son of Michael and Christine Morris, has lettered in band and wrestling since his freshman year. For the past three years, he has been a Bulldog Buddy. Morris wants to become a successful businessman and, later, a teacher.

Brian Joseph Ducre Jr., son of Brian and Catrice Ducre, is involved in track. He is an active member of his church youth group. Morris wants to attend Southeastern Louisiana University and major in business.

Nicholas John Thompson, son of Richard and Kathy Thompson, enjoys playing hockey. As a freshman, he played club basketball. He is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a Top Dog this year. Thompson helped with community cleanup after hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. His goal is to major in business management at LSU.

Tyler Henry Houin, son of Craig and Robin Houin, is a member of the soccer team since his freshman year. His involvements include National Honor Society and National Hispanic Honor Society for the past three years. He has served as vice president of the National Hispanic Honor Society, a Bulldog Buddy and a Top Dog. Houin received the Gifted Program Award for Super Clubs National Team. He plans to attend LSU and major in finance and business.

Nathan Jude Templet, son of Amy Wagner, has recently developed an interest in theatre. He wants to attend LSU where he will major in culinary arts.

William Peyton Adkins, son of Todd and Julie Adkins, was honored as the Most Valuable Freshman on the FHS soccer team and Player of the Year for the Mandeville Lakers Super Clubs National team. He was a member of the Foreign Language Club and Ultimate Frisbee Club during his freshman and sophomore years. Adkins is a four-year member of Key Club and of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He joined the National Hispanic Honor Society two years ago, and he was inducted into the National Honor Society last year.

His community involvement includes church food drives. Adkins’ goal is to play soccer in college and to attend medical school.
