Northlake Christian opens district play tomorrow

Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines open District 7-1A play tomorrow night against the Christian Life Academy Crusaders on the road in Baton Rouge at Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 7 o’clock. The Wolverines (1-3) face off against the Crusaders (3-1). Christian Life is ranked No. 10 in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll for Class 1A.

Mandeville senior linebacker Hayden Harper has helped lead the Skippers to a 4-0 (2-0 in District 7-5A) start this season. Harper has posted 12 solo tackles with 11 assists. He has recorded three tackles for losses. He also has an interception and a fumble recovery.

FHS Lady Bulldogs capture St. Thomas More Tournament

Fontainebleau’s Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways Saturday, sweeping through four matches in the St. Thomas More Tournament. FHS senior outside hitter Lindsey Barron powered the Lady Bulldogs to victory, blasting 47 kills in the tournament, while sophomore libero Caitlyn Auxilien delivered 37 digs.

Unbeaten Mandeville on road to Ponchatoula

Mandeville (4-0) holds the early lead in District 7-5A play with a 2-0 record as the Skippers travel to the Swamp to take on the Ponchatoula Green Wave tonight. Mandeville downed the Slidell Tigers 24-21 at home last week, while Ponchatoula (3-1, 1-1) suffered a disappointing 42-20 defeat at the hands of the Covington Fighting Lions on the road.

St. Paul’s Wolves are at home tonight hosting the Slidell Tigers. The Wolves (4-1, 1-1) manhandled the Hammond Tornadoes 42-7 last week. Slidell (2-2, 1-1) fell to the Mandeville Skippers 24-21 on the road. Both clubs hope to claw out a victory to keep pace in the District 7-5A race.

Skippers sweep Mandeville Invitational

The Mandeville Invitational was held last Friday at Pelican Park. Mandeville freshman Elizabeth Manuel captured first place in the girl’s three-mile race in a field of 62 runners with a time of 17:57 to help lead the Lady Skippers to the team title with 41 points. MHS took four of the top 10 places. Christine Derbins was fourth (20:03) followed by Ashley Irwin (20:26). Ashley Gussoni (21:58) came in 10th for the Lady Skippers.

St. Paul’s sophomore running back Stephon Smith carried the load Friday night, leading the Wolves to a 45-24 district victory over the Slidell Tigers at Hunter Stadium. St. Paul’s (5-1) upped its District 6-5A mark to 2-1, while Slidell (2-3) slipped to 1-2.

Panthers win big over Hammond

Led by the rushing of Channing Wise, the passing of Jervious Epherson and solid special teams play, the Northshore Panthers defeated the Hammond Tornadoes Friday night, 56-21. Wise carried 14 times for 233 yards, and Epherson completed 10-of-12 passes for 143 yards and two scores. For homestanding Hammond, Torian Weber had 232 yards on 19 carries and two scores, including an 80-yard run around left end. Justin Betts added 60 yards on nine carries for the Tors.

Hannan gets its first win of season at Rabouin

Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks generated enough offense to win its first game of the year Friday afternoon, downing the Rabouin Falcons, 34-22, at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans. Hannan moved to 1-4, while Rabouin fell to 0-3.
