Slidell senior volleyball player Kaitlyn Crippin plays outside hitter and setter for the Lady Tigers. This season, her second as a starter, she has helped SHS to a 13-9 overall record and 5-3 in district. Heading into Thursday’s match against Covington, she had 145 kills, 126 assists, 53 aces and has added 18 digs. In the Lady Tigers’ first meeting with Covington, Krippin had an amazing match, posting 14 aces and handing out 19 assists.

Crippin also started competing in long jump last season.

Slidell coach Nancy Plaisance talked about Crippin.

Kaitlyn Crippin

“Kaitlyn, right now, is kind of like controlled chaos,” Plaisance said. “She’s constant motion and that’s good. She’s really doing a good job for us because has really taken a lead for us in hitting and setting. She’s like the sparkplug of the team.”

The coach added that Krippin is a hard worker.

“Kaitlyn got great work ethic,” Plaisance said. “She’s a lot of fun to coach. She’s silly, but that’s part of her charm.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports? I like being on a team, playing as a team and seeing the team working together.

What do you like best about being a student athlete? Coming in as a freshman, you get to meet people before you have to go into school. I like getting to be a family with everyone. The team comes together. It’s cool to have people you know around school.

Do you feel an added responsibility of being a role model as a student athlete? Yes, I feel like I have to follow the rules and act certain ways. I can’t get suspended or anything because then it looks bad for the team.

Most memorable game/accomplishment or situation in sports? We went to state my sophomore year. I thought it was cool to get to go. (Slidell was knocked out of the playoffs that year by New Iberia, which was the No. 1 seed, in the regional round that year in the Pontchartrain Center.)

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? My dad (David) because he comes to the games and tells me how did whether it’s good or bad. He doesn’t hold back.

Favorite team? All Louisiana State University sports.

What is your favorite subject in school? English.

Plans after high school/college major? I want to go to Southeastern Louisiana University and play volleyball. I want to major in education and teach English.

Favorite sports movie/TV show/actor/actress? “All You’ve Got,” “Full House,” Adam Sandler and Sandra Bullocks.

Favorite type of music? Country.

Favorite food dish? Tacos.

Best vacation? We go to Callaway Gardens in Georgia with my family. Sometimes we go around Christmas or in the summer. I have family in South Carolina, so we just meet there.

Best thing about living on the Northshore? I like that it’s small, so everyone kind of knows everyone.

Hobbies/interests: I like photography, writing and running.

Parents: David and Tammy Krippin of Slidell.
