Skippers sweep Mandeville Invitational By Mike Pervel and Chris KinkaidSt. Tammany News The Mandeville Invitational was held last Friday at Pelican Park. Mandeville freshman Elizabeth Manuel captured first place in the girl’s three-mile race in a field of 62 runners with a time of 17:57 to help lead the Lady Skippers to the team title with 41 points. MHS took four of the top 10 places. Christine Derbins was fourth (20:03) followed by Ashley Irwin (20:26). Ashley Gussoni (21:58) came in 10th for the Lady Skippers. Fontainebleau earned a second place finish with 47 points, putting three runners in the top 10 led by second place finisher Amy Deeble (18:11) finishing 14 seconds behind MHS’ Manuel. FHS’ Megan Simon (20:57) came in seventh with teammate Laura Keyes (21:47) taking ninth. Slidell (107) took third with Megan Smith (20:50) earning a sixth place finish. Pope John Paul (140) finished fourth. The Lady Jaguars’ top runner was Jenna Fereday (22:18) in 15th place. First Baptist Christian School’s Gabrielle Jennings earned a third place finish (19:02). In the boy’s competition, Mandeville made it a sweep, taking the team title with 46 points in the 14-team field, which included 144 runners. Slidell’s Zach France captured the boy’s three-mile race with a time of 15:41. Fontainebleau’s Zach Harris finished second just seven seconds back. The Skippers had three top 10 finishers led by Connor Casey in third (16:06). Bryan Mutell came in sixth (16:23) followed by Steven Hollander (16:32). Fontainebleau (62) came in second followed by Rummel (99). Slidell (112) was fourth and Brother Martin (115) was fifth followed by Holy Cross (156). Pope John Paul II (214) took seventh, followed by Ponchatoula (284), St. Augustine (339) and Chalmette (342) rounded out the top 10.
