Mandeville Mayor Eddie Price gave up his city-issued Ford Expedition several months ago as a result of two incidents involving alcohol.

Now he wants it back.

Earlier this year Price was stopped on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway for smashing through a tollgate and driving several miles without headlights. The Causeway Police officers who pulled Price over failed to issue a field sobriety test or a citation.

Their actions were caught on their dashboard cameras.

After an investigation into the incident revealed the officers gave the mayor preferential treatment, they resigned.

The Chief of the Causeway Police Felix Loicano also resigned, ending a 35-year stint in law enforcement.

Price was later issued a citation for the event and a fine for the damage done to the tollbooth barrier.

Soon after, two Mandeville police officers reported they too had a run-in with Price.

Mandeville Police Chief Tom Buell said his officers reported they pulled Price over in 2006 after he nearly collided with one of them on Monroe Street. Price admitted to drinking that night, but the officers chose not to issue a field sobriety test or a citation. Instead, they drove the mayor back to City Hall.

Later that night, they received a call from a gas station attendant describing an apparently inebriated Price, but by the time officers arrived, Price was already gone.

With those incidents, along with the impeding pressure from the public, Price decided to relinquish his vehicular privileges and enroll in a 12-week counseling program.

He recently finished the program and is now interested in getting back behind the wheel of the city-owned Expedition.

“I feel it was a success, and so does the doctor,” Price said.

According to the city’s charter, Price has the authority to reacquire the city’s vehicle without anyone’s permission, but with respect to the City Council, he wants to discuss his decision with them first.

“They ought to at least hear from me about the program and what I went through and even from the doctor before I drive the vehicle again,” Price said. “Not only are they my colleagues, but they’re my friends.”

" I do not live in Mandeville, but in St.Tammany. I work for a large corporation where we have company cars. We have a zero tolerance rule. Drink and drive, your fired. No questions asked. Eddie should count his blessings that he can get away with what he has and just be quiet. No he can not have his car back, just be glad you still you have your job. "

" I think he should resign. What kind of example is he setting for our children? Stealing and Drunk driving. He should be ashamed, but he is not!! He is a man with no conscience!! "

" I believe, Mr. Price doesn't believe he has done anything wrong. I don't beleive he will resign, and I don't know how much time he has left on his term in office. Maybe the citizens of Mandeville need to start a recall petition. If not, hopefully someone else will run against him. "

" They should not only not give him the tax payers car back but make him pay for all the repairs out of his own pocket and take his drivers license from him and then fire him plus throw in some jail time. "

" The sad part is, Price does not believe he has done anything wrong. It's just more Louisiana politics. I live in St. Tammany, but not Mandeville, why don't the city residents start a recall petition. In his mind he has done nothing wrong, he won't resign. "

" I want to know why did they just take the vehicle. Why isn't Mr. Price in jail where everyone else sits when they are caught drinking and driving? I do believe that someone has to step in and stop the unjustice in this parish. The jails are full of working citizens that broke the law, I guess to get a free pass you need to steal from the parish, know the Sherriff and run with the correct crowd. We know that they aren't serving kool-aid at all those parties don't we? He doesn't deserve a company vehicle, he deserves stripes! "

" It's amazing that he's still Mayor. He was in on countless complaints about mis appropriation of funds, two alcohol related obvious incidents and who knows what else that wasn't caught. St Tammany has a 98% conviction on DWI but I guess Mayor Eddie Price is in that 2%......TWICE!!!!!
He needs to resign. Very simple.

" It sucks to pay for gas doesn't it? I don't believe that he should get the vehicle back. If it was anyone else, not only would they NOT have a take-home car, they'd be FIRED!!!
    Pathetic isn't it. "

" Sure, you can have it back. At market value rental price. Why would someone taking $96,000 from the city need to take more taxpayer money for a car? Why would the taxpayers fund a vehicle that cost over 40K and gets 12mpg anyway? Look at the criminal record of this man: two alcohol incidents, numerous ethics complaints/violations, personal spending excess in his office. For those of you hoping he'll step down before the term ends, he won't. The last act of Tom Buell as C.O.P. should be to turn on Price and arrest him. "
