Salmen edges Holy Cross

Salmen’s Julien Troullier ran for two touchdowns as the Spartans beat the Holy Cross Tigers, 18-15, in a District 9-4A game held at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans Friday night.

Salmen (4-2) is 2-0 in district play, while Holy Cross (1-5) slipped to 0-2 in league competition.

The Spartans got out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter when Troullier scored on a 1-yard run. The extra point failed and the score was 6-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Holy Cross got on the board with a 30-yard run by Brenton Bowman. The PAT was good and the Tigers led 7-6.

Holy Cross took that lead into the fourth quarter, but Salmen tallied the next 12 points and retook the advantage.

Troullier got in from a yard out.

The conversion attempt failed to keep the Salmen lead at 12-7.

The Spartans added to their lead when Daniel Sams hit pay dirt from 31-yards out. Salmen was unsuccessful on the conversion, keeping its advantage at 18-7.

The Tigers scored the final touchdown in the fourth quarter when Blake Toups hit Ryan Deemes on a 13-yard pass. Holy Cross was good on the two-pointer to finalize the tally at 18-15. Salmen returns home to face the East Jefferson Warriors Friday night.
