Christian Golfers’ tourney upcoming

The 10th annual Christian Golfers’ Association Golf Tournament will take place on Monday at Money Hill Golf and Country Club.

The four-person scramble begins at 9 a.m. with registration, warm-up and breakfast scheduled for 7:30. The cost is $150 per golfer, which includes breakfast, lunch, green fees, along with chances at prizes in the closest-to-the-hole and longest drive contests. Mulligans are also available to be purchased.

Stealth Fast Pitch Softball tryouts

 

Tryouts are being held for the 12U girls Slidell Stealth Fast Pitch team starting Saturday with three additional required days, Oct. 26, Nov. 1 and 2.

Pelican Running meets Saturdays

The Pelican Running Club is in its’ third marathon-training season. The group meets each Saturday morning at 7 at the Mandeville Trailhead for a group training run on the Tammany Trace. The suggested training schedules (available online at mardigrasmarathon.com) are designed for training to complete their first marathon or half-marathon event. 

The group is very participatory in nature and we’ve had great fun the past two years preparing for the New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon events.

VIA Fall Training

The Volleyball Institute of America is holding its annual Fall Training Program for ages 7-14.

The remaining dates are Sunday and Nov. 2.

The time frames are 1:30-3 p.m. for ages 13-14 and 3:30-5 p.m. for those 7-12.

The last day of fall training will include tryouts for the 2009 Club Season.

St. Paul’s Alumni Association events

St. Paul’s Alumni Association will host several special Homecoming events honoring the “Class of 1984” on their 25th anniversary. There will be a reception for all alumni in the small gym of the Gene Bennett Sports Complex tomorrow. The event will start at 6 p.m. Beginning at 7 o’clock, the alumni will be honored guests at the annual Homecoming Pep Rally for the student body. On Oct. 24 a reception for the members of the “Class of 1984” will be held in the cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m. Following the football game against the Ponchatoula Green Wave, a reception for all graduates of St. Paul’s will be held in the cafeteria. Slidell Elks Lodge Golf Tournament

The 17th annual Slidell Elks Lodge Golf Tournament will take place Nov. 8 at Royal Golf Club with a shotgun start at noon.

This tournament benefits the Veterans Programs.

The fee is $55 per play, which includes green fee, cart, beverages on the course and lunch at 11 a.m.

Gift Certificates will be awarded for 1-3 places. Prizes will be given for the Closest-to-the-Hole contest, which will be on holes 2, 7 and 17.

Sponsorships cost $25 per hole.

Legends Thanksgiving Basketball Camp

Fontainebleau High coach Barry Dotson and Mandeville’s John Priola are conducting the Legends Thanksgiving Basketball Camp from Nov. 24-26 at Pelican Park’s Brown Gym for children in kindergarten-eight grade.

There are three time slots available, including two half-days and a full day.

Half-days run from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The full day goes from 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.

Those who register before Nov. 17 will pay $65 for half days without lunch and $80 with lunch. The full days are $85 without lunch and $100 with lunch. After early signups, the cost goes up $15 across the board.

Each camper will receive a free T-shirt, participate in daily competitions, games, contests, giveaways and prizes.

The goal of the camp is to provide a positive and fun recreational place where campers can become better and more inspired players.

Montz holding soccer camps in December

The Jared Montz Pro Soccer Camps will be held Dec. 13-14 at Coquille Sports Complex and then again Dec. 27-31 at Pelican Park.

Montz is a Mandeville High graduate and professional soccer player.

Both clinics are for children ages 5-13. The one at Coquille will run from 1-4 p.m. the cost is $65 if you pay by Nov. 13, $75 by Dec. 12 and $85 by Dec. 13.

The cost includes an autographed picture, Montz soccer ball, question and answer session, chances to win Montz gear, prize giveaway, camper action pictures from e-mail and a chance to be on Montz TV.

Campers must provide water, ball, cleats, shin guards and sunscreen.

For the clinic at Pelican Park, the cost is $180 by Nov. 25, $195 by Dec. 26 and then $205 by Dec. 27. The cost covers the same things in both camps, but participants receive a T-shirt in the second camp.

The camp will run from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 27-28 and 9 a.m. until noon Dec. 29-31.

AAU Basketball Fall Training

The Northshore Basketball Training Center is taking registrations for the fall Amateur Athletic Union training season, which is a prelude to the start of the 2009 AAU season.

The center plans to have nine AAU teams again this year from ages 8-14 for both boys and girls. Training has already begun and goes through mid December, but registration is still being accepted.

The Monday Evening Anglers will meet every Monday at Bonfouca Marina in Slidell at 4 p.m. with blast-off at 4:30. There is a $20 membership fee and $25 tournament fee.

Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program

The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held on the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville.

Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition.

Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
